Abstract

There are various religious and ethnic communities ranging from Kurds, Turkomans and Arabs to other minorities. The Kurdish population conspicuously outnumbers and dominates other ethnic communities. This article doesn’t handle with all the ethnic communities or religio-political movements in Northern Iraq. Virtually all the parties in Northern Iraq, KDP (Kurdish Democratic Party) in particular, carry out their activities on ethnical basis. This study mainly concentrates on the situations related to religion, which characterize the religio-political parties. These situations, at the same time, directly influence socio-political structures. Specifically political Islam undergoes a significant transformation in Muslim countries, at the top which is Egypt. From this angle, examining the religious movements in the Northern Iraq region is of special import.
