Abstract

Sait Faik Abasıyanık and Oğuz Atay are two important names to consider in Turkish literature with respect to modernization of story and assessment of the reflections of modernism on story. In this paper, Sait Faik’s stories titled “A Dot on the Map” and Oğuz Atay’s “Man with White Coat” are studied as main texts to investigate the where the stories are in modernization journey. Sait Faik, who mainly writes on humanity and human love, sees the basic problems of human beings from his unique angle, and achieves to differentiate his stories from the traditional ones especially through his poetic language which is as important and discriminating as the topic of the story. Oğuz Atay is another important name in modernization of Turkish stories. In limited number of publications he has written in his short life of 43 years, we see first powerful traces of modernizm. At the same time, as the forerunner of postmodern literature Atay, is imbedded as an important figure in the history of Turk
