Abstract

Scythians occupying a significant place among the Central Asian Steppes attract attention not only due to their religion but also their socio cultural structures and understanding of art special to them. On the other hand, the findings related to the presence of Scythians in Anatolia are attributed to various archaeological materials and philological data. It is seen that nomadic life, a common property of steppe cultures, played a very important role in the formation of sense of art and life style of Scythian societies. Struggle with nature, hunting and war oriented life styles which are the most important characteristics of nomadic life paved the way for a sense defined as “Animal Style” in art. Thanks to artefacts obtained from Scythian cairns, important information about Scythian animal style has been attained.
