Abstract

Van is military-strategic bridge ruling to the Persian Gulf and Central Asian trade route. With this feature, Van has been a city wants to have throughout the history of the state. During the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the Eastern Question had been on the basis of the events occurring in Van and its surroundings. During this period, many religions, scientists and researchers from Western governments had come to Van and its surroundings and started to intelligence and missionary activities here. Schools which have opened by Missionaries have played an important role in being the enemy of the state by vaccinating to the idea, "Autonomous Armenia" to the Armenian students. Western states and missionary efforts in this direction have given results very soon and Armenians being called “loyal nation” for centuries revolted.
