Abstract

The idea of a democracy beyond the nation state borders has emerged within the framework of theongoing globalization debate in political science discipline. The critics have also emerged as the proponents of global democracy in the period of increasing debate about expanding global governance network and making the international organizations such as the United Nations more democratic. This paper mainly focus on the debate of global democracy quest and especially cosmopolitan democracy model. In this article, it is aimed to analyze critically the cosmopolitan democracy model pioneered by David Held, Anthony McGrew and Daniele Archibugi in the context of the role of the civil society that is framed in cosmopolitan democracy and perspectives that has been brought for citizenship.
