HIGHER RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN PAKISTAN

Abstract

When Pakistan was established as an independent country in 1947 with one part in east and the other part in west of India, two universities exist within the borders: Pencap University (1882) in west, Dakka University (1921) in east. East of Pakistan further became an independent state named Bangladesh. Despite the existence of traditional madrassas for higher religious education upto now, many modern universities and colleges were also established within time. In this study, quality of the modern higher religious education in Pakistan is addressed. The history of such institutions is mentioned first, and then the case of International Islamic University Faculty of Islamic Studies is investigated. The educational goals, the programs, context, methods and program outcomes of the institution are studied in detail.
