Abstract

Communication is an indispensable part of our lives as a necessity and a desired element since the existence of man. The ways of communication and tools that have been constantly changing and developing in the historical process have had an impact on societies in every age. These effects were more pronounced on societies, especially in traumatic events. The importance of communication in the situation of war, famine, epidemic, disaster etc…, the influence of the media, the perception it creates and the social responses to them have been the subject of research by different disciplines. In this study, after mentioning the meaning and types of communication in the general perspective, the prominent elements of communication in the pandemics experienced in history are explained, and the role of communication and perception management in the pandemic periods are examined. The COVID-19 pandemic, which is spread all over the world, has been emphasized in terms of perception management by trying to explain from this perspective. This study is expected to both contribute to the literature and gain a different perspective to practitioners and researchers on how the communication process should be maintained during the pandemic periods.
