Abstract

The invasion of Çukurova region following World War II was favorable to the French, but they faced an extremely harsh resistance after the Turks after they seized the South-East lands of Turkey with the release of the Çukurova region that encompassed the districts of Kilis, Gaziantep, Urfa, Marash, Adana, Mersin, Kozan and Osmaniye. This resistance took a heavy toll on the French, upon which they had to give up their hopes on Cilicia and abort mission. When General Gouraud came to attend a memorial ceremony in Canakkale, the speeches he gave made it apparent that he still felt sincere sympathy towards the Turks, against whom he fought to the last drop of blood both in Canakkale battles and during war of independence, where he even had to lose a part of his body. Nevertheless, he never showed hatred towards the Turks, but he became a "professional enemy" and was able to respect their heroism. A research model that aims to collect information about the features of the universe and describe people, situations or events precisely and correctly was used and archival materials and copyrighted works were reviewed.
