Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted with the aim of determining the hopelessness levels of parents who have disabled child. Method: In this descriptive study, the families of children with disabilities who were educated in special education centers. The population of the study consisted of the families of children with disabilities who were educated in special education centers, and the aim was to reach all of the parents of all children with disabilities without being selected, and 130 parents who volunteered to participate in the study were included in the study. Data were collected by using a questionnaire and Beck Hopelessness Scale. Standard deviation, mean, frequency distribution and chi-square tests were used to calculate the data. Findings: In terms of disability, 23.8% of the children were mentally disabled, 22.3% were hearing impaired, and 20.8% were pervasive developmental disorders. 31.5% of parents have another child with disability and there are more. 48.5% of the parents were found to be hopeful about the future of their handicapped children. The mean total score of Beck Hopelessness Scale was found to be 10.43 ± 2.42. Conclusions and Recommendations: In this study, the hopelessness levels of parents with disabilities were found to be mid-level.. Supportive approaches to parents who have a disabled child; it is thought that they will contribute positively to the hope levels of their parents.
