IDIOMS IN SELECTED POEMS OF EBUBEKIR EROĞLU IN TERMS OF LEXICON

Abstract
Language is an institution, which reveals its power with the vocabulary treasury contained in it. Determining the lexicon of a languageis very important for demonstrating its vocabulary world. Within the lexicon of a language, there are great resources such as proverbs, idioms, hendiadys, adjectives, compound words, Word groups. Idioms, which are evaluated within lexicon, can be considered among important elements of language. Since Turkish Language has been used as a deep-rooted language for long years, its lexicon and vocabulary diversity are in considerable amounts. Poets in their poems often use idioms, which are used by everyone in daily life too. In this study, we examined the topic of idioms within the context of twelve selected poems of Ebubekir Eroğlu, who is renowned for his poems and prose in Turkish literatüre for many years. Eroğlu, with his poesy, editör and intellectual personality, has succeeded in rich-contented publications with regard to Turkish language and literatüre. In the study, we provided a resume concerning poet’s life and personality, and then we elaborated the topic of idioms in Eroğlu’s selected poems.
