Abstract

Bu çalışma, Leibniz’in Descartes’ın hareket kuramı üzerine eleştirilerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. A Brief Demonstration of A Notable Error of Descartes and Others Concerning A Natural Law (BD) makalesinde Leibniz, Descartes’ın hareket kuramının, özellikle de evrendeki hareket miktarının korunması ilkesi ve çarpışma ilkelerinin, sebep- sonuç eşitliği ilkesini ihlal ettiğini iddia eder. Leibniz Descartes’ın hareket miktarının korunumu yasasına karşı çıkar ve alternatif bir korunma ilkesi formüle eder. Leibniz, evrende hareket miktarının yerine hareket enerjisi (vis viva) miktarının korunduğunu öne sürer. Leibniz, Descartes’ın hareket yasalarının hareket enerjisinin (vis viva) korunumu ilkesi ve sebep- sonuç eşitliği ilkesini ihlal ettiğini göstermek için bazı argümanlar önermektedir. Bu çalışmada, Leibniz’in argümanları irdelenecek ve Leibniz’in Descartes’a yönelttiği eleştirilerin geçerli olup olmadıkları gösterilmeye çalışılacaktır.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Leibniz’s criticism of Descartes’ theory of motion. In his article A Brief Demonstration of A Notable Error of Descartes and Others Concerning A Natural Law (BD), Leibniz argues that Descartes’ theory of motion, especially principle of conservation of quantity of motion in the universe and principles of collision, violates the principle of the equality of cause and effect. Leibniz objects to Descartes’ law of conservation of quantity of motion and he formulates an alternative conservation principle. Leibniz claim that in the universe, the quantity of Vis viva has been conserved instead of quantity of motion. Leibniz offers some arguments in order to demonstrate Descartes’ laws of motion violating the principle of conservation of Vis viva and the principle of equality of cause and effect. In this paper, Leibniz’s arguments have been scrutinized and has been tried to demonstrate whether Leibniz’s criticism on Descartes is valid or not.
