Abstract
Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun son yüzyılında Avrupa’dan gelen milliyetçi fikir akımlarının dönüştürücü etkisiyle, sosyal ve siyasi yaşamda kimlik tartışılan bir kavram haline gelir. Özellikle Balkan Harbi’nin parçalayıcı etkisi, kurgulanan yeni “Osmanlı Milleti” algısını imkânsız hale getirirken etnik kimlik bilinci üzerinden şekillenen devlet anlayışını zorunlu kılar. Farklı kimlikleri bir arada bulundurma ilkesine dayalı Osmanlı devlet sistemi, her ne kadar reformist bir yaklaşımla ve geleneksel siyasi üslubunu devam ettirerek sorunu çözmeye çalışsa da siyasi konjonktür buna izin vermez. Bu noktada etnik kimlik inşa süreçleri, Osmanlı’nın tüm sosyal kimliğinin tekrar düzenlenmesini gerekli kılan bir yapıda tezahür eder. XIX. yüzyıl toplumsallaşmanın en işlevsel aracı olan roman bu bağlamda ön plana çıkar. Tanzimat romanı modernleşmeye dair izlerin sürüldüğü en önemli tanıklardan biridir. Abstract
Identity becomes a controversial concept in social and political life with the transformative effect of nationalistic movements coming from Europe in the last century of the Ottoman Empire.While making impossible the newly built "Ottoman Nation" perception, especially the disintegrating effect of the Balkan War, It requires the state understanding through ethnic consciousness. Although Ottoman state system, based on the principles of the union of different identities tries to solve the problem through traditional political ways with a reformist approach, the political conjuncture will not allow the solution.
