Abstract

Research has been carried out in different areas on the symbol, which is a sign that a group of people allied and loaded with certain meanings. The symbol, which is handled in the context of Symbolic İnteractionism rather than in the sociological sense, is seen as important in understanding the society. This article focuses on the Islamic garden as a sample with its symbolic meaning. The Islamic garden prototype, which was created in order to reflect the paradise narration in the Quran to the world, refers to symbols completely. Rivers in heaven, pool, trees, flowers, canopy and peace are reflected in this garden. Paradise expression that appeals to all senses is thus tried to be created in the world. Islamic gardens, which were widely used in the 12th and 18th centuries in the historical process, but disappeared today, are a good example in our opinion in terms of tracing a mentality. Our aim in the article is to present the Islamic garden prototype and interpret it in the context of sociological and mentality. The subject will be presented in the context of the sociological method and the literature review technique.
