Abstract

Wedgwood, an English Porcelain Factory, is established by Josiah Wedgwood in 1759. He is the person who contributed the ceramic industry with the ceramicwares (ceramic bodies) that he invented after a long period of research (study). Queenware in 1762, Black Basalt in 1768 and Jasper which has started to be produced in 1778 are Josiah Wedgwood’s most significant innovator inventions. Yıldız Çini Fabrika-i Hümayun is established by Sultan II. Abdülhamit in 1891 to supply the need of the porcelain products (wares) that occurred as a result of the industrialization movement. With a 100 years of manufacturing history, the factory changed a lot of administration and name during this time. Finally in 1994 Yıldız Porselen Fabrikası is committed to TBMM National Palaces Administration and it still continues to produce porcelain and tile. Vejvut, one of the factory’s product, has similar properties with the Wedgwood’s Jasperware. It has the same body color with the blue Jasperwares but beside that there are differences about their relief application techniques and the pattern themes. This article includes the comparison of Wedgwood’s Jasperware and Yıldız Porselen’s Vejvutware.
