Abstract

The labour force gap in production sector which came out as a result of Industrial Revolution, has demanded female labour force in addition to that of male. Especially due to the effect of urbanisation, accelerated after the Second World War, this trend became more evident and women, who had been engaged in private sphere until that time, became an important shareholder of working life. Among those, the married women had been undertaken a double burden in order to meet the necessities not only of their professional, but also of their family lives and these multiple roles caused some role strain upon them. Particularly in the countries, such as in Turkey, where female labour participation ratio is low, women experience some difficulties while they are trying to set a balance between working and family lives due to the traditional negative attitude towards female employment. The subject matter of this study is the change in family roles of women working in urban settings and in non-agricultural sectors.
