Abstract

Bookbinders class that was created by cover craftsmen in Ottoman period, was created under state structure and was part of the ehl-i hiref-i hâssa organization, which prioritized art. This organization provided us with many unique products of jewellwery, soft textile, wood and metal arts till nowadays. Lasting for almost four hundered years, this organization’s part was bookbinders class, namely, seventeenth century’s cover craftsmen’s organization structure, performed jobs, applied prices and the changes they went through the seventeenth century are the main topic of this research. İn the study, detailed information about palace bookbinders is given and this century’s cover craftsmen’s names and prices they applied is given as a list. An effort is given to research the ehl-i hiref-i hâssa notebooks from the 17. century.
