Abstract

The Turks have placed the animals at the center of their social life due to the constitutional and nomadic culture and the needs of the geography they live in. For this reason, animals have a privileged place in the social and economic life of the Turkish nation. The Turks, who continue their livelihood with livestock farming, have seen the greatest benefit from animals in their struggle. In Turkish history, symbols related to animals were widely used and these symbols were overlaid with Turkish identity. They met the nobility with horse; not to succumb with wolf; strength with lion; speed and hurrying with birds and they used these metaphors in many works. The animal symbols they used in their flags and calendars are a proof of this. In this study, the use of animal names in Codex Cumanicus, which is the first work written in Latin alphabet in Turkish history, is emphasized in today's Anatolian dialects. The existence of the vocabulary in the present-day Anatolian dialects, which contains the periodic Turkish used in the Kipchak area in the north of the Black Sea, is important in terms of showing important clues about the historical course of Turkish. Therefore, it is thought that this study will bring a different perspective to vocabulary studies.
