DATING VIOLENCE ATTITUDES IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: CASE OF SAKARYA UNIVERSITY

Abstract

Depending on the violence, every year many people face serious injuries, are exposed to psychological and physical effects that change their lives negatively and even die. In this matter, violence effects harms people and society which treatens people’s lives There are many types of violence and it can be seen in almost every part of human lifes. Dating violence is one of these types of violence and this article focus on that situation. Shortly dating violence is described as the violence perpetrated by the dating partners in an emotional relationship. Dating violence is different than domestic violence and is seen more frequent among the teenagers and university students. Violence affects people’s personality and lives as it is occured in personality development. Aim of the study is to determine the university students’ situation in perpetration of and exposure to dating violence and also their attitude to this type of violence. In accordance with this purpose, population of the study consists of students who study at Sakarya University from 2017 to 2018 education period. 400 students included in the sampling and a survey was conducted. As a result, it is determined that dating violence and attitudes towards to dating violence may vary according to age, sex and parents educational background.
