One of this “collections of essays” is Why Read the Classics (1991), which collects many articles written by Calvino about the books of the Western literature that have influenced him mostly. The work done by the author is a kind of re-reading and re-composition of the Western canon. Just a few years later, in 1996 Harold Bloom, professor of Humanities at Yale University, wrote his fundamental text on the Western canon. In this article by starting from the ideas of Bloom and by comparing them with the Calvino’s thoughts about the importance of Classics, we intend to reflect on the characteristics, validity and actuality of the canon’s concept in an era where concepts of globalization, creolization and multiculturalism are very popular in the study of literature.},author={Cristiano BEDİN},year={2018},journal={The Journal of Academic Social Science}}
