Abstract

This study aims to compare some physical and motorical characteristics of female soccer and handball players. University soccer (n =10; age: 23.00 ±3.74 yrs) and handball (n =10; age: 19.16 ±99.99 yrs) players voluntary participated in the study. All players have been a student at Marmara University of Physical Education and Sports and they have trained regularly for at least 3 years. Parameters such as age, body weight, height, body mass index, vertical jump, 30m speed, hand grip strenght, leg strenght and anaerobic power were measured. Differences between groups were analyzed with Mann Whitney U test and significance level was accepted as p<0.05. Body weight, height, body mass index, 30m speed, leg strenght and anaerobic power did not differ between the soccer and handball players (p>0.05), but hand grip strenght and vertical jump values were significantly higher in handball players (p<0.05). As a result, some motorical characteristics of soccer and handball players were same. It is believed that these similarities were accepted as the result of participated in similar conditioning training program which belongs to soccer and handball.
