Abstract

Madonna in a Fur Coat is the most widely read book of Sabahattin Ali, one of the leading writers of Turkish literature with his short stories, poems and novels. The book is about the loneliness of people in society. For this theme the writer uses the love story of Maria Puder and Raif Efendi and also the narrator who reads this story after many years. Although its second edition was made 23 years later, it reached a huge number of publications especially after 2000. In order to understand this interest, first of all the book needs to be analyzed carefully. For this reason, in the first part of this study, it was analyzed in terms of form, plot, characters, narrator, point of view, time and space. In the second part, the reasons of this fame like form and content were discussed thoroughly. Also, other reasons like popular culture were argued.
