Abstract

In this study, an incident in the election program, broadcasted on Fox Tv on 24th June 2018 analyzed in the context of violation “off the record” ethical principle according to the theory of John Stuart Mill’s Utilitarianism. In the program, presidential candidate of the Republican People's Party Muharrem Ince sent a phone message as “he won” to Ismail Kucukkaya –anchorman of the program- and intended the Justice and Development Party’s candidate Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory. Right after, Ismail Kucukkaya read this message on-air. Case study has been evaluated in the context of different variables by also election results are very important to society hence the program aimed to public benefit as well the message sent by the news source to Ismail Kucukkaya did not contain any warning about “off the record” and the basic expectation of the audience from the program to learn election results, considering all of these no ethical violations have been found in the program.
