Abstract

In healthcare sector, where the competition is intense, private hospitals are required to constantly renew their services, technology, processes, and structure in order to differentiate themselves from their competitors and survive. Knowledge, skills and experience of the employees working in the hospitals have an important place in the innovation of hospitals. In this study, it is aimed to examine the effect of human capital on innovativeness in the context of private hospitals. The study was performed between August 2018 and October 2018 in the cities of Istanbul, Bursa, and Kocaeli. The data of the study were collected from the managers working in the private hospitals located in these cities. In order to collect data, survey methodology is used. According to the results, statistically significant and moderate positive correlation was found between human capital and innovativeness. Moreover, it is also found that human capital positively affects innovativeness. According to these results, it is recommended that hospital managers should focus on activities that improve human capital, and should create an environment in which employees can share their thoughts, knowledge and experiences in order to foster innovativeness.
