Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relation of impression management tactics used by university students in social media to their self-esteem. In addition, the attitudes of the people to make an impression in social media were examined and the conclusions about the self presentations in these circles were made. The sample of the study consisted of 416 students (174 males, 242 females) who continued their education in various faculties of Dicle University. As a result of the research, there was a significant negative correlation between the level of impression management tactics used in social media and the level of self-esteem. It was also seen that university students made self-presentation in social media through their real identities and showed attitudes towards creating positive impressions and avoiding negative impressions in these environments.
