Abstract

Some activities and programs need to be implemented regularly and programmatically in schools which helps the children to complete their physiological, motoristic and social development. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of step and folk dance exercises applied to the 10-11 age group on children's social development. The participation was a total of 30 children, 15 boys and 15 girls, who attended Batıkent Secondary School in Ankara province and volunteered to join the study. The activities are continued for 12 weeks, 3 days a week, 90 minutes a day. A 14-questions questionnaire consisting of "yes" and "no" options was administered to the children participating in the study to evaluate the social development contribution prepared by the researchers before and after the studies. The obtained data were transformed into tables by taking frequency and percentage values in SPSS 21.0 package program. It has emerged that children are able to express their emotions in society, show a shared attitude towards the people around them, adapt to unconventional situations and adapt to the rules. The sportive recreational activities which applied to the children are to both express self-expression and gain them self-control as well as discovering different skills.
