Abstract

This study focused on the Art of Coptic portraits which received a special attention because of its intellectual structure that combined the religious subject and the technique of making. This art formed a distinctive technical school in style, idea and technique in the Egyptian Art and made the culture of funerary paintings a unique individual case in the History of Art. This study emphasized the generality of belief and its relation to the social reality of that era, linked to the methods of representing spiritual concepts and developing the dialectics of beliefs. This conception in Egyptian art shows the significance of Coptic portraits in the Egyptian cities. It was a mixture of ancient Egyptian and Roman art cultures at the beginning of the Gregorian era. This study presented an analysis of the spiritual structure of these artworks in terms of the nature of belief.
