Abstract

In this study, the memories written by Yahya Kemal, Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Hakkı Süha Gezgin were evaluated together and some inferences were made. Firstly the disappearance of Abdulhak Hamit’s glory in the eyes of Yakup Kadri with Hamit's attitudes witnessed by Yakup Kadri is noticed when the technical mistakes that Yahya Kemal found in Abdulhak Hamit’s poems woke up in Yahya Kemal's doubts about Abdülhak Hamit’s poetry. Unlike both, Yahya Kemal and Yakup Kadri, it is seen that Hakkı Süha Gezgin has tried to trivialize Abdulhak Hamit’s technical mistakes in his poems and he ignores Hamit’s imperfections in his life and his works. Yahya Kemal shows the situation directed at a single person by Tevfik Fikret who is hostile to the Party of Union and Progress. It is noticed that in the memoir of Yakup Kadri, he expresses the personal and political reasons of this hostility and the status of this hostility directed towards the whole nation and state. It is determined that a situation in the life of a literary person can be interpreted differently. In addition, while Yakup Kadri does not articulate his personal thoughts about Halide Edip, it can be seen that the real thoughts of Yakup Kadri about Halide Edip can be reached in the memoir of Yahya Kemal.
