Abstract

Handcrafts have emerged since human beings due to natural conditions. He has provided the first examples with the purpose of covering, covering and protecting people's needs. The handicrafts, which developed afterwards and changed according to the environmental conditions, gained "traditional" qualities by reflecting the emotions, artistic pleasures and cultural characteristics of the emerging society. The courses opened by the public, private institutions and institutions and the trainings they give are very important in the survival and continuity of the crafts. Public institutions and private organizations include herbal knitting, stone processing, silver processing, weaving, woodworking, marbling, mother-of-pearl inlay and so on. They are involved in a variety of studies. Many women are benefiting from this course and trainings, living their leisure time, earning income and happiness of acquiring a profession. In this study, handicraft courses opened in Public Education Centers in the districts of Hatay-İskenderun and Şanlıurfa-Suruç and the kinds of products that women participating in trainings made in these courses were determined. In addition, the role of these courses for women in the survival and continuity of handicrafts is explained in the example of İskenderun and Suruç.
