Abstract

Sport is one of the ways in which humans believe they will remain healthy. While it was regarded pure exercise in pre-modern times, it has now become a source of income with the advance of capitalist economic system. Although football is a branch of sport with easy rules to follow, it has become hugely popular in modern times. Television channels and production companies have begun to earn enormous amounts of money immediately after they saw the commercial potentiality of football. Besides millions of dollars spent for players, subscriptions and advertisements have made football a part of the media industry. Football is reproduced on TV even after a football match is over, thanks to replays of as well as comments upon certain parts of a football match. This study aims to analyze the way in which the relation between football and TV has had social and economic consequences on the one hand, and how TV and its narrative techniques have transformed football into a commodity.
