Abstract

II. Constitutional Monarchy, in the written press, as in many areas has led to the emergence of significant developments. Kalem, which was the most important humour magazine in constitutional period, made a real revolution in Turkish caricature and humour space. Kalem magazine was published between the dates 21 August 1324 (3 September 1908) and 16 June 1327 (29 June 1911) as one hundred thirty number. Kalem magazine was published by Salah Cimcoz and Celal Esat Arseven. Kalem magazine, which wasn’t be indifferent period’s social, political and culturel exchange has a specific humour understanding. And it focused on revolution in society. Most of the writings were published as without signature or using nickname “Kirpi” nickname is used by Refik Halit Karay in Kalem magazine. Two articles have “R. H.” signature, nine articles have “Kirpi” nickname. This work aims to provide information about Refik Halit Karay’s humorous articles.
