Abstract

Cappadocia region has had a very important location throughout history. The region had sometimes become the peak of commercial activities and at sometimes has functioned as a connection route to neighboring lands. Cappadocia Region was situated in the middle of Central Anatolia and its location affected its climate and vegetation as well as agriculture and animal husbandry. Due to its continenetal climate the plant cover of the region was generally steppe. These facts developped the animal husbandry especially the sheep and goat farming in the region. When these features considered, it is seen that Cappadocia region had an important place for cattle, sheep, goat, mule, and horse breeding. Additionally, Cappadocia was famous for its mules and horses in the Ancient World. This study focuses on animal husbandry and related activities in Ancient Cappadocia by making use of ancient and modern sources.
