Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine India's sectoral specialization and export competitiveness by using the revealed comparative advantage coefficients. In this context, Balassa Index, Vollrath Index, Net Trade Index and Export-Import Rate Index are used in the study covering 2000 and 2016 years. In addition, factor intensities of the products exported by India are analyzed according to the SITC Technology Classification. Findings after the analysis show that India specializes in raw materials and labor intensive product groups and that export competitiveness is achieved. In other words, India's imports are based on R & D-based technology-intensive goods. As a matter of fact, India is dependent on foreign trade in value added goods. Nevertheless, the level of specialization and competitiveness of India's high-tech product export groups are increasing steadily.
