Abstract

This study aims to develop a scale which can be used for measuring managerial communication styles of school managers. In order to collect data, a questionnaire form was generated from Richmond & McCroskey (1979)’s Managerial Communication Styles framework. The questionnaire was employed to 320 educators of 6 primary schools in Gaziantep, in 2014-2015 academic term. In order to determine validity and reliability of the scale, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient was tested, respectively. The EFA results showed that 15 items with four-factor scale explained 69,59 % of total variance. The Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient, was calculated as 0,886. The factors were named as “Join, Consult, Tell and Sell” according to the related framework. The research results showed that the developed scale, Managerial Communication Styles for School Managers, has high reliability and validity level. Therefore, this scale can be used to measure school managers’ managerial communication styles.
