Abstract

France was occupied by Germany During the second World war and split. According to the armistice terms, in the war reparations indemnity, consist of non-ferrous metals that France had to pay were tried to be collected by bronze mobilization campaign due to the lack of sources. In this context, most of the monuments and bronze Statues were dismantled melted firstly in Paris and all over France. The absence of this Statues was erased from memories and also caused monument erosion in public spaces. They reflect the memories of war times with the bare pedestals which can still be seen in some regions. Fortunately, this incident was learned by a photographer Pierre Jahan, and the Statues were documented in the demolition center that they would be demolished. After the war had ended, those photographs were published in the book “La Mort et les Statues” written by Jean Cocteau in 1946, and experiences were saved from being forgotten. In this article, the events developed around the demolished Bronzes were told. In the book, the Statues are identified and their initial conditions are examined by means of going through postcards of Paris that have been printed at the time of their production.
