Abstract

Introduction Like all health workers, NICU nurses can experience many work-related stresses such as physical work environment, shift work, role ambiguity and conflict, excessive workload, insufficient wages. Material and Methot The study was conducted with a descriptive cross-sectional type with 68 nurses in order to determine the levels and factors of work stress of the NICU nurses. The data were collected by a questionnaire and the Perceived Stress Scale (AIS). Number, averages, percentages, Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon test analyzes were used statistical analyses. Significance value was accepted as p <0.05. Result Communication problems with colleagues and physicians, inadequacy of pay, causes of work environment are the main stressors. There was a statistically significant difference between marital status, having children, shift work, the average number of patients care in one night, and the Job Satisfaction Perceived Stress Scale score (p <0.05). Conclusion Nurses were found to have work stress due to communication, occupational and working environment. Working with larger groups, it may be advisable to take precautions to reduce for NICU stressors.
