Abstract

TRT which was the only one channel and black and white started broadcasting of the first half of the 1970’s, a crisis emerged in the cinema halls. Until then, cinema, which is almost the only entertainment of the public, begins to lose its audience to television. The video, which was included in life shortly after, caused the crisis to grow even further. Cinematographers were in trouble. Between 1974 and 1984, many movie theaters were closed. The inclusion of television and especially video-cassettes into everyday life caused many changes in both micro and macro dimensions. The changes in cinema-watching practices along with the video-cassette are followed by social, economic, cultural and political transformations. This study tries to understand the changing and transformative effect of video-cassettes in daily life with television. In this context, the period between 1975 and 1985 was first examined through 3 national newspapers. Local newspapers and cinema magazines, as well as national newspapers, were included in the archive / document analysis. News archive, corner texts, advertisements and cartoons were taken into consideration when scanning the archive. In addition to scanning the archive, oral history meetings were held with 20 ordinary people who lived in that period to understand the relationship and the transformation between daily life and video-cinema. In the last stage, all the data obtained was analyzed in a sociological perspective to understand the changing and transformative effect of a communication technology on everyday life.
