Abstract

The aim of this study is to try to understand why individuals living in modern times need to be members of a religious community and what the main mo-tives that guide them to a religious community are with their perspectives. Our study was limited to "Nur Community". As of today, Nurju movement has been separated into different subgroups within itself and it also continues to be separated. The sub-groups that are believed to be compatible with the gen-eral doctrine of Nur community were discussed in our study. It was attempted to interview with Nurju followers who are the members of different provinces and different groups as far as possible in terms of reflecting the entire Nur community. This study was carried out in many different cities where Nurju members are intense. The qualitative research method was used in our study. In qualitative research, in-depth interviews and participant observation of data collection tools were used. Since we could not predict how big our sample would be at the beginning of the research, the theoretical sampling method developed by Glaser and Strauss providing data collection was used up to the stage (saturation point) where the answers given by interviewers began to re-peat each other. A total of 17 people were interviewed. The interviewees were reached through 'snowball sampling'. The field study was conducted in a peri-od of 2 months (July-August) in the summer of the year 2017. As a result of the study, it can be said that religious communities have taken a significant role in the liberation of individuals, who have become atomized in modern times, from the feeling of loneliness and exclusion, and that they offer sensu-ality and mystery, feeling of unity and belonging that have begun to disappear in modern times to individuals again.
