Abstract

There are differrent social groups defined as ‘others’ based on socioeconomic, sociocultural and sociopolitical structures in communities present today. Cultural values, cultural codes, icon and symbols produced by them based on previous living accumulation should be requestioned, reinterpreted and rediscussed in social and artistical platforms in a world which has transformed and become gradually chaotic, which is all structured by the evidence of the documentary film “9/8 in Ateşi Seni de Yakar” directed by Ragıp Taranç taken during Hıdrellez ceremonies in Romany getto of Tepecik, Izmir and later supported with interviews. The esthetical and philosophic approach to the documentary film has been found to have some similarities to “Rize” documentary shot by La Chapelle, a fashion photographer on Afro American families in Los Angeles gettos. Both documentaries enable us to observe that those social groups Express themselves using dance, music, garments and body talk in a ritualistic manner. The present study is a fieldwork which aims to question cultural dimensions of carnivalesque life which has gradually been kitsched and reflected upon street.
