Abstract

The basic conditions for being a strong state are to have a nation within deep-rooted and rich cultural accumulation, a strong economy, strong government and an army equipped with superior weapons. In the Ancient Near Eastern civilizations, a strong and orderly army was at the beginning of these conditions. The army, which make it superior organization structure, the number of troops, military capabilities, and so on as well as attack and defense weapons used by the soldiers. In mountainous Eastern Anatolia the state of Urartu, which extended over most of eastern Anatolia, northwestern Iran and Armenia during the eighth and sixth centuries B.C. Urartu was in constant conflict with Neo-Assyria Kingdom, many tribes and nomadic peoples in order to survive by the this time, undoubtedly owes the successes of these struggles to powerful armies and superior equipment used in these armies. One of these equipments is undoubtedly the swords which have very advanced features according to the age. In this article, the ones that are most noteworthy among the Urartian swords are arranged in the form of the reeled hilt swords.
