Abstract

In this study; it is aimed to determine the various meanings of the Abdal concept, the current application of the religious beliefs of Abdals in present Central Anatolian Abdals and mystic tack the music performance styles of present Central Anatolian Abdals. By using a descriptive scanning model; meanings of the concept of Abdal, history and geographic distribution of Abdals, religion and life philosophies of Central Anatolian Abdals and their music traditions have been determined. Concerning to the subject, written sources, web sources, video footage have been used and local artists have been interviewed, documents have been reviewed and on-site interviews have been held. According to data obtained from Kırşehir, Kaman and Keskin Abdals that forms the borders of the study, there are performed types such as bozlak (mourning), halay, broken tune and dance tunes in the region. Some Abdals living in only Keskin have taken part in the Cem Ceremonies until recently and it is determined that they have rarely performed “Semah” tunes within the context of mystic belief. In this sense, by considering to have a repertoire variety, four different works in bozlak, halay, oyun havası and semah by local violinist Çetin İçten have been analysed and submitted within the study.
