Abstract

The aim of this study that is using a mixed methodology is to determine the opinions of the science teacher candidates on inclusive education and their needs in this regard. 73 teacher candidates who continue their education in Science Teacher Training program are participated in the research. As a quantitative data collection tool, "Opinions Related to Inclusive Scale" developed by Antonak and Larrivee (1995) and adapted to Turkish by Kırcaali-İftar (1996) was used in the research. As a qualitative data gathering tool, the open-ended question form which was prepared in order to reveal the opinions of the prospective teachers on inclusive was used. In the analysis of the quantitative data obtained, SPSS program was used. In the analysis of qualitative data, descriptive analysis technique is used. According to the findings obtained from the scale it is determined that the attitudes of the science candidates towards the inclusive are moderate or even close to negative. According to the qualitative findings obtained from the research it is determined that the prospective teachers do not imformed enough on mainstreaming, do not know how to teach science courses for inclusive students, and think that they are inadequate to integrate them in science education. It has been found that they were informed only preliminarily on inclusive in their special education courses, they did not take any other courses or education, and they do not consider the college education to be enough. Teacher candidates have laid emphasis on that they want to be educated on subjects such as activity planning, material preparation, giving lecture for integration students in science lesson.
