Abstract

The vocabulary one uses in daily life is a criterion to have an idea about themselves. Similarly, the vocabulary of a language gives an idea about that language. For instance, whether the technological terms are native or foreign will provide clues about whether the society using that language is a technology producer or a consumer. When viewed as a whole, a text handled exists with its vocabulary and reflects a small section of the language. It helps to obtain information about the circumstance, progress and changes in the section of the period of language in the context of the period that the text is created and the subject which the text is related. Especially, the specific language material which the texts present related to a professional language/jargon and the accessibility of terms make them more valuable in terms of vocabulary. At this point, medical texts have an important place. From the point of anatomy, botany, pharmacy and other health terms, the name of diseases, some mineral and chemicals’ names they include, medical texts provide a source of material for the researchers of both language and medical history. In this study, the vocabulary of the medical text called Terceme-i Kitâb-ı Ebûbekir Er-Râzî which was translated into Turkish in the first half of the 18th century is examined. The words used in the text are handled and tried to be evaluated in the context of their origins, meanings and frequency. This study aims to contribute the researchers of the Turkish language, cultural history, medical history and other related fields.
