Abstract

Political criticism is a film criticism methoth that uses basic concepts which belong to Marksist theory, evaluating these concepts in relation to each others and in an integrative manner. It evaluates a film with the methoth making up by using criterions which are successive like ‘the place of director in dominant production relations, ideology and social class conditions of director’, ‘production conditions and manufacturing type in which film is made’, ‘typicality and integrality in the story and characters of film’, ‘processing way of the story which film approachs and originality in the style’ and ‘the political context of film and the criticism of the context’. In this article, it is aimed to political criticise of Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s film ‘Winter Sleep’ which won Golden Palm in 67th Cannes Film Festival by being given that it would be typical case within the framework of the specified method. Moreover, it is claimed that this film is about the inner depressions of the lives of a historyless place, their alienation, evil-minded and unchangeable human nature, when doing so, that it tried to show the inner face of the fundemantal exixtance which mentioned by using the distinction between city-village and intellectual-peasant in Turkey as a background.
