Abstract

The study has been conducted to examine whether the motivation levels and self-regulation skills of the pre-school children aged between 48-72 months vary by variants including their age, sex, school type, parents’ education, mother’s employment and father’s occupation. The study also examines the relation between the motivation levels and self-regulation skills of the children. The study has been planned in the relational screening model. The study group consists of 219 children at the ages of 48-72 months attending to the pre-school education institutions in the districts of Yenimahalle and Altındağ of the Ankara province in the academic year of 2016-2017 who are selected by the random cluster sampling method. As a result of the study, it was determined that the motivation levels of the children varied significantly by variants including school type, father’s education and occupation and mother’s employment. The motivation levels of the children didn’t vary significantly by their age, sex and mother’s education. Self-regulation skills of the children varied significantly by variants including their age, sex, father’s education and occupation (p<0,05), while these skills didn’t vary by the variants of mother’s employment, mother’s education and school type. It was determined that there was a medium, positive and significant relation between the motivation levels and self-regulation skills of the children.
