Abstract

It is possible to say that the geopolitical value of Russia given to The Middle East in international relations literature is evaluated as an extension of the imperial policies following in the last 100 years. It can be said that these evaluations made are not wrong but they are missing to some extent. Because it is necessary to go back to the tsarist period in order to fully analyze the Russians current Middle East policy. The main reason for this, it is the tsarist period when the Russians started to form the first concrete policy towards the Middle East. In the empire period following the tsarist period, the Middle East policy of the Russians began to gain more clear lines. The aim of this work is to present a historical assessment of the Middle Eastern politics of the Russian tsarist and empire era. With this asessesment, it is tried to show that there is a history of about 500 years of geopolitical value attributed to the Middle East by the Russians. Within this context, it is analyzed what kind of a strategy is followed, how and with which states the relationship is established during the tsarist and empire era in which the Russians began to form the first concrete policy towards the Middle East.
