Abstract

In this article, activities and policies of USA towards Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were examined in detail. Due to the relation to this subject, US policy regarding the Treaty of Lausanne is also examined. The states which aimed to partition the Ottoman Empire that started to collapse in the 1820s, exploited Greeks, Serbs, Bulgarians and Montenegrins in the Balkans and Armenians in Anatolia. The countries which played a dominant role in provoking Armenians against the Ottoman Empire were Russia, Britain, France and the USA. US missionaries and embassy officials played a most important role as regards the Armenians. They took some selected Ottoman Armenians to the USA and brought them back to the Ottoman Empire after training. These Armenians served as leaders of the rebellion against the Ottoman Empire.
