Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the purpose of social media usage of associate and bachelor students studying in health field at Adnan Menderes University. 424 students participated in the research. Personal data sheets and social media usage scales were used to collect data. The data were evaluated using the SPSS 20.0 package program. Of the participants department, 45% were Nursing, 14.4% were First and Emergency, 13% were Anesthesia, 9.9% were Dialysis, 9% were Physiotherapy and 8.7% were Medical Documentation and Secretariat. The average age is 19.55 ± 1.74, 75.9% is females. There was a statistically significant difference between chatting and sharing the homework prepared for the lesson with the gender. There was a statistically significant difference between asking questions about the course to friends, sharing personal information / photos, and commenting on friends' comments to the student's department (p<0.05). More than half of the students who participate in the research use internet and social media very frequently. Social media and the internet have been used to communicate with their social partners more often for negotiation purposes, but they have been used less frequently for such things as information sharing for lessons.
