Abstract

In this research, which is planned as an interdisciplinary research involving visual arts and botanical teaching, it was aimed to teach the endemic plants in the vicinity of the secondary school students and to acquire nature-consciousness through painting these plants. The study was conducted in 2016-2017 academic year. Typical case sampling was preferred in this research. The study group consists of 36 secondary school students was determined on a voluntary basis. Research data was obtained from student diaries, student artworks and reflective writing. Quantitative analyses of qualitative data and descriptive analysis techniques have been used to analyze data. It has been observed that students can integrate their cognitive knowledge with practice skills. Moreover, it has been proved that the activity process provided awareness of the value of the endemic plants in the immediate vicinity of the students and help them gain new experiences they enjoyed. It is thought that implementing and increasing the number of such of practices with primary and high school students will contribute to the upbringing of new generations with high awareness of natural culture properties.
