Abstract

This study was conducted in order to determine the effect of the context-based learning approach on the attitudes of the students towards science. The study was conducted on the 6th grade students of a secondary school located in the city centre of Çankırı. The number of the students included in the sample of the study was 50 in total. Purposeful sampling method was used in the study. Semi-experimental pattern with experimental and control groups was employed in the study. While practices were carried out in an education environment organized in line with the approaches of the existing curriculum in the control group, the activities prepared in accordance with the context-based learning approach were additionally applied in the experimental group. The study was conducted in the “Electrical Conduction” Unit of the 6th grade Science Lesson. “Attitudes towards Science Lesson Scale” was used as the data collection tool in order to determine the levels of attitudes of the secondary school students included in the experimental and control groups towards the science lesson. The Cronbach Alpha () reliability coefficient of the 5-point likert type scale was found to be 0.91. The results of the study show that the context-based learning practices have a positive impact on the students’ attitudes towards science.
