Abstract

Humor, to which many positive and negative attributions have made over the history, is actually a humane phenomenon having lots of forms, and a collection of sense-making and actions. The humorous approaches, the oldest sources of which can be encountered on cave and stone pictures/drawings, some archeological findings, and in ancient Greek humorous texts, can vary according to life style, society, time, and beliefs. This variation can be seen in Turkish society creating original humorous characters and factors. In this study, the humorous creations, characters, and approaches of Turkish society were investigated from a historical perspective through the periods of Seljuks, Ottomans, and Republic. The results showed that Turkish humor has its own original characters and creations; recently humor is used in different fields like cultural economy; depending on the cultural environment, Turkish humorous characters have appeared with new images; and finally present humorous masters developed new humor creation ways in electronic cultural environment such as caps and vine.
